The Olympic Peninsula is a diverse ecosystem that can take you from ocean coastline to ancient rainforest to mountain vistas all in the same day. Our workshop will explore these ecosystems and capture their beauty. We will search out tidal pools, shorelines, waterfalls, mountains, forest and more to make sure you leave the workshop with a handful of images that are sure to make your top twenty.

Add Dave Black to the mix and you have a workshop that becomes a once in a lifetime photo experience. Dave will teach you the process of light painting that will expand your creativity beyond belief.

You will learn a variety of techniques—both in the field and in the classroom—that will allow you to advance both your technical skills and artistic vision. We focus on a number of professional field techniques to help you create dramatic and powerful nature images, including:

  1. Working with dramatic light, including sunrise and sunset
  2. The fundamentals of powerful compositions
  3. Abstract techniques for creating artistic photographs

We’ll also teach you a number of professional “digital darkroom” secrets as well. Our hands-on intensive seminars—held during the middle of the day when the light is not conducive for photography—will teach you the fundamentals of image processing, and allow you to master important techniques including:

  1. Working with Adobe Lightroom
  2. Layer masking and image blending techniques
  3. Creating HDR Photographs
  4. Working with Photoshop and other photographic software
  5. Special effects techniques used for artistic expression
